Foreclosure Update 6.15.09: A California state foreclosure moratorium went into effect. It was set in place to give homeowners more time to save their homes, but few are expected to benefit from this 90 day grace period. Nearly 40 banks in charge of most of the state’s lending have won 30 day exemptions while their modification plans are under review. Many of these banks have received permanent exemptions.
Foreclosure Update 5.11.09: The foreclosure moratoriums that were in place during the end of 2008 and early 2009 have officially ended. The moratoriums have been largely ineffective, as loan modifications and other government policy actions have gained little traction. As a result, the foreclosure moratoriums have only served to postpone the inevitable and leading indicators such as Notices of Default and Notice of Trustee Sales point to a surge of foreclosures over the coming months.
